Keto Walnut and Basil Pesto Pizza Sauce
Looking for an alternative Keto pizza recipe? Whizz up this easy Keto pizza sauce packed full of herby Italian flavors using just five ingredients that comes together in a food processor or blender in less than 5 minutes. Fresh basil is key, then garlic, walnuts, olive oil and grated parmesan cheese are also added which gives the pesto its distinct taste. Make sure to use a good quality extra virgin olive oil and spread over your favorite low-carb Keto pizza along with your favorite toppings. This recipe yields approximately 1 cup of sauce.
Can I make any substitutions?
Pine nuts are typically used in a classic pesto sauce, so you can switch out the walnuts for pine nuts or almonds for another variation.
Can I adapt the recipe for different diets?
If you wish to make this pesto pizza sauce tree-nut free, you can substitute the walnuts for sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds, or a mixture of both.
It can also be made vegan by omitting the parmesan for ½ teaspoon sea salt or use a plant-based hard cheese alternative.
What can I use this sauce with?
This Keto walnut and basil pesto pizza sauce is amazing spread over your favorite Keto pizza base. Any leftover sauce can be stirred through zucchini noodles, great as a dip with vegetable crudites or Keto crackers or stuffed into chicken breast fillet parcels and grilled. The options are endless!

Step 1
Add the walnuts, basil and olive oil to a food processor or a blender. Crush the garlic and add it to the blender. Give it a whizz to initially combine.Step 2
Grate the parmesan cheese using the fine edge of the grater. Add the grated parmesan and a good grind of black pepper to the basil mixture. Blend again until a smooth paste.Step 3
Taste and adjust the flavor to suit. You may add more basil or salt if required. If the mixture is too thick, either add in 2 more tablespoons of olive oil or water to thin it out. Blend it again until desired consistency. Spread over your Keto pizza base. If you're not using it right away, the sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4-5 days.

How many pizzas will this cover?

This will cover 2 medium pizza bases. If you think it won’t be enough for 2 and it might run out, just add more olive oil, or water one tablespoon at a time to thin out so it goes further.
