Keto Oven-Fried Kale Chips

74 ratings

These kale chips are so crisp and salty, I really don’t miss regular chips. They are great on their own or as a topping for a soup instead of croutons. Of course you could buy kale chips at the store for triple the price, but it is worth a little effort to make them yourself at home!

  • Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 F. Strip kale leaves from their stems and rip each leaf into small pieces. The leaves do not need to be perfect.
    Step 1
  • Step 2

Wash the leaves and dry in a salad spinner. If you do not have a salad spinner, lay them flat to dry on a sheet tray and tap dry with paper towels.
    Step 2
  • Step 3

Place kale leaves in a bowl and toss well with olive oil and salt.
    Step 3
  • Step 4

Distribute leaves between 2 sheet trays. You do not want the leaves to touch very much so they will get nice and crispy. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until light, slightly browned and very crispy!
    Step 4
  • Step 5

    Enjoy your homemade kale chips.

Could grapeseed oil be used instead? It's good for high heat cooking and lighter weight than olive oil.

These were delicious, satisfying and easy to make. I like trying different seasonings for different tastes. Today I made cajun kale chips! 😋

These were so delicious! 😋 definitely satisfy a chip ceaving! Next time I will do a shorter cook time because they turned out borderline on the burnt side but still had great flavor and really crispy!

Great recipe. I always use different oils. I find I enjoy the Chile oil for spice or the basil garlic oil the best.

Why is this so high in carbs? I bought a bag of prepared kale and the packet says 1.0 gram of carbs per 100g. There is 150g in the packet so 1.5 carbs? The oil and salt doesn’t have any carbs, although I took the advice and reduced the oil to save on calories.

Water weight is removed by cooking dry, therefore intensifed the nutrients

The concept is spot on but the amount of oil is unnecessary. Copy the recipe to your recipes and then use the edit option to adjust the amount to your liking. A key secret to great baked kale chips with less oil is messaging them to break up their membrane. You'll see they become limp and transparent when you massage the leaf. This really helps them crisp up without so much oil; I've made all 6oz with just 15 grams of avocado oil. Seriously reduces the calories, WHICH STILL MATTER ON KETO!!!

I like to add Nutritional Yeast for added protein and amino acids before I bake it.

Absolutely yummy but make more than 6 oz because once it’s cooked it’s not much. I suggest 3x the recipe to be able to share. Also just sprayed with olive oil and seasoned with salt, garlic powder and pepper.

Addicted to the crisp. I used 2 table spins of oil and baked for 13 minutes.

Sprinkle some Adobo on them and it’s perfect. Just adds a little something.

I baked at 350 for 11 minutes . One tablespoon olive oil for for one pan (about 1/3 of bunch of kale). Came out light and crispy

I don’t like the amount of oil and salt. I’d prefer another recipe.

To avoid burning, I cook them at a lower temperature, regardless of size, the dehydrate in my dehydrator until crispy. I also used avocado oil instead of olive oil, and sprinkled with Flavorgod’s chipotle or everything seasonings

Really good! I’m still experimenting with oven temp and cook time. I think 300 for about 13 min. Works in my oven. I just sprinkled very lightly with salt. Going to love them tonight with my burger! Also, husband even like them.. perfect low everything crunchy snack

Mind blown! I’d always dreaded kale recipes but these are the perfect chip replacement! And I agree with other reviewers, less salt is better.
