Keto Salisbury Steak

60 ratings

Another American Midwest delight is totally keto and delicious in its own right! Juicy beef patties are smothered in a drippy mushroom gravy made from scratch. Plenty of worcestershire sauce flavors all components of the dish, as well as a little parsley. Serve with keto cauliflower mashed potatoes to soak up all that deep brown gravy!

Recipe Steps

steps 7

30 min

  • Step 1

In a bowl, combine the first 9 ingredients together to form the salisbury steak patties.
    Step 1
  • Step 2

Divide the mixture into 4 sections and build 4 patties about ½-inch thick with your hands. They don’t have to be shaped perfectly, but ovals or circles are good.
    Step 2
  • Step 3

Heat the olive oil in a large pan over high heat and place in the patties. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side until they are completely cooked through and both sides are browned well. For the first 3 minutes of cooking, you can place a lid over the patties to trap steam and make more tender patties.
    Step 3
  • Step 4

When done, transfer the patties to a clean plate to rest. Then, melt butter in the pan over very low heat to deglaze the pan. Toss in minced garlic and the xanthan gum, and use a fork to quickly whisk the ingredients together in the butter.
    Step 4
  • Step 5

Pour the water and worcestershire into the pan, and turn the heat up to a medium-low (enough for a low simmer). Toss in sliced mushrooms and condensed beef broth. Place the lid on the pan and simmer the ingredients very gently for 4 minutes.
    Step 5
  • Step 6

Finally, stir the remaining salt and pepper into the mushroom gravy. Place the 4 salisbury steak patties in the sauce. Return the lid, and let all the ingredients warm up together for 2-3 minutes. You may gently spoon the gravy over the patties to help them gather the flavors of the gravy.
    Step 6
  • Step 7

Serve hot! You may garnish with fresh or dried parsley at your discretion. Enjoy!
    Step 7

I do not like xantham gum. It makes the flavor gummy. Anyone try something different to thinker the gravy that doesn’t affect the net carbs?

I used Force of Nature 100% grass fed beef Ancestral Blend that has ground Beef liver & heart. It was so delicious. I also added 6 Oz of mushrooms & filled the rest of the instructions to the T. My family loved it over some rice. I enjoyed it with the mushroom sauce. Very filling.

Before added the butter and xanath gum, add the mushrooms and sauté until soft. Then follow the rest of the recipe. I lowered the salt by half. Still good.

Amazing. Really delicious. I used a beef stock cube and 1 & 1/2 cups of water for the gravy, instead of 1/2 cup of beef stock and an extra 1/2 cup water. I only used 1/4 tsp of pepper in the gravy & omitted the salt because I used the stock cube.

I bought Belgioiso shaved blend Asiago, Parmesan & Romano. because it had nothing added, just cheese from Sam’s.

To substitute yellow prepared mustard, use 1 teaspoon for 1 tablespoon powered. To substitute for the mustard completely (for allergy) a 50/50 mix of turmeric and horseradish powder (for heat and color), turmeric alone (for color/mild bitterness), or mild chili pepper/cayenne for heat.

Excellent flavor but I would find a substitute for xanthan gum also. Someone suggested cream cheese, I’ll try that next time.

Thanks for sharing this tasty recipe. It was a bit salty for my taste but nothing a minor adjustment cannot fix. I'll omit the parmesan next time 5/5
