Keto Garlic Herb Tuna Steaks
Sometimes chicken and beef steak get a little boring, but that is where tuna comes in! Wild-caught tuna is so flavorful on its own, but we have added fresh garlic and rosemary as seasonings. The tuna is patted dry to create the perfect sear. Then, it is seasoned with plenty of kosher salt and black pepper. The tuna is seared on both sides, but before it is removed from the pan, fresh garlic and rosemary are added to the residual fat in the pan. The oil is then basted on top of the tuna steaks to flavor the steaks with the rosemary garlic flavor. You will love this quick but flavorful Keto tuna recipe.
What is the best tuna to use for this recipe?
Please use wild-caught frozen tuna steaks for this recipe where possible. If you cannot find wild-caught tuna, please feel free to substitute it with conventional tuna steaks.
Can I use other herbs?
While rosemary works well for this because it is a sturdy herb, another herb that would work well is thyme. Feel free to use thyme and rosemary or substitute the rosemary with the thyme.
Why is oil, not butter, used?
We kept this recipe dairy-free. However, butter would be a delicious alternative, so feel free to substitute the oil for butter or ghee in this Keto tuna steak recipe.

8 oz
Coarse Kosher Salt
0.25 tsp
Black pepper
0.25 tsp
Rosemary, fresh
3 tbsp
Garlic
2 clove
Recipe Steps
steps 5
Step 1
Pat the tuna steaks with paper towels on both sides until nice and dry. Sprinkle the first side with half of the salt and pepper. Preheat a medium-sized skillet over medium heat until hot.Step 2
Once the pan is hot, add in the avocado oil and swirl the pan to coat. Add in the tuna steaks salted side down. Sprinkle the tops of the steaks with the remaining salt and pepper. Sear on the first side for about one minute or less.Step 3
You will see how fast the steaks are cooking as the cooked steak will turn white, and the center will be pink. Flip and cook on the other side until the desired doneness is achieved. For medium-rare, this is only less than a minute on both sides.Step 4
After you have flipped the steaks, add the rosemary and smashed garlic cloves to the pan. Ensure the herbs touch the oil so they will perfume it. Tilt the pan and baste the tuna steaks with the flavored oil until the desired doneness is reached.Step 5
Allow the steaks to rest briefly until you cut them. Slice the steaks using a sharp knife. Then layer the slices to expose the bright pink centers.
