Hot buttered rum is a gently spiked silky cocktail made by combining butter with spices and dark rum. The strength of the alcohol is determined by how much hot water you add. Perfect for cozy winter nights or larger gatherings, this Keto Thanksgiving cocktail recipe makes an excellent nightcap to end the festivities. Spiced rum is used for this Keto Thanksgiving recipe, but you can use any dark rum of your choice.

Can I make this ahead for large gatherings? You sure can! We suggest making a batch of spiced butter which can be stored in the fridge until needed. For 8 servings, combine the below ratios into a butter. To make a drink, pour 2 ounces of spiced rum into a mug and scoop 1 tablespoon of the spiced butter, then top it with hot water.

* ½ cup unsalted butter, softened

* 1 tsp cinnamon

* 1 tsp ground nutmeg

* 1 tsp ground allspice

Can I make this recipe dairy free? Yes, you can! Substitute the butter for room-temperature coconut oil.

Can I make this alcohol-free? The spiced butter mix is equally delicious on its own when simply topped with hot water. Omit the liquor entirely in place of a little cream and 1-2 teaspoons of rum extract or maple extract to one serving, and you'll have yourself one cozy mocktail.

    Boil 120ml of water. Place the butter, sweetener, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice into an Irish coffee glass or mug. Use a spoon to mix well into a paste.
