Keto Air Fryer Fish and Chips

The best air fryer recipes are usually effortless to make! This Keto-friendly version of the British classic is an amazing everyday comfort food you can easily prepare in your air fryer. Kohlrabi is an excellent low-carb alternative to traditional French fries and preparing them in your air fryer is a great idea to make them crispy and absolutely fantastic. These kohlrabi fries are tossed in olive oil, salt, dried parsley, and some paprika for a wonderful color and flavor. When preparing the fish, feel free to adjust the salt and pepper according to your taste. If the fish sticks to your air fryer basket, lightly grease the bottom of the basket with some olive oil.

Can I replace kohlrabi?

If you're not a big fan of kohlrabi, you can easily replace it with sliced zucchini. Season zucchini according to your taste and air fry for 8-10 minutes at 400°F (200°C). Another great option would be celery root. In that case, fry for 10 minutes at 350°F (175°C).

How to serve Keto air fryer fish and chips?

These will go great with your favorite Keto dips, Keto ketchup or low-carb mayonnaise. Optionally, sprinkle with some lemon juice.

  • Step 1

Crack the eggs into a bowl. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Whisk well with a fork. Add the almond flour to a different bowl.
    Step 1
  • Step 2

Dip the fish into the egg bowl, coating the entire fillet, and then transfer to the almond flour. Place the coated fillets on a piece of parchment paper. Repeat until all the fillets are coated.
    Step 2
  • Step 3

Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Put the prepared fillets into the air fryer basket and cook for 18 minutes, turning halfway through. The fish should be golden brown and crispy on both sides.
    Step 3
  • Step 4

When done, remove the first batch from the air fryer and transfer to serving plates. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you will probably have to cook the fish in several batches. Repeat with the remaining fish, making sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket.
    Step 4
  • Step 5

Meanwhile, remove the stems, leaves and tough end from the kohlrabi. Peel and slice the kohlrabi into ¼ inch rounds. Cut each piece into ¼ inch julienne slices.
    Step 5
  • Step 6

Place the strips into a large mixing bowl. Drizzle oil over the strips and season with paprika, salt, and dried parsley. Toss well to combine.
    Step 6
  • Step 7

Add half of the fries into the air fryer basket and cook for 10 minutes at 350°F (175°C). To get the best results, make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket. Repeat with the remaining fries. Fries should be golden brown and crispy.
    Step 7
  • Step 8

Serve Keto air fryer fish and chips immediately. These go great with some low-carb mayonnaise, Keto ketchup, or your favorite Keto dips. Garnish with some freshly chopped parsley and lemon slices.

Perhaps, try weeping your zucchini with salt like an hour before. Kinda like you'd do eggplant? Let the salt draw the water out of it. Maybe then it will come out crispier!

Turnips are not the same as kohlrabi

    • OutstandingKale261230

      OutstandingKale261230 2 years ago

That’s probably because most people call them turnips not kohlrabi. They’re the same thing.

I made the fish, not the chips part. I pan fried the cod in butter, I bought zero carb tortillas, and made tacos. Bomb!

Kohlrabi is more akin to radish than turnip. Very different flavors.

Kohlrabi can be found in the produce section of your grocery store or at a local farmers market, when in season. Kohlrabi and turnips are not the same vegetable.

It might be easier to grow them if you can. There a lot online seed store you get Kohlrabi seeds from. That is my plan. They have less carbs then the average turnip.

Kohlrabi is just another name for turnips.

Fries are soggy and fish breaks up when trying to flip.

      • recipewriter

        recipewriter 2 years ago

Hi Nick, we're sorry to hear about that. Depending on the type of your air fryer, the fish can sometimes stick to the basket. Maybe you can try with a piece of parchment paper? Although it's Keto-friendly, kohlrabi indeed has a different texture than potatoes. You can use the celery root instead (just make sure to count the carbs).

Dry and not nice at all…

Hi :) We appreciate the feedback. Some foods can be a bit dry when prepared in an air fryer. You can lightly brush the fish with olive oil during the cooking process.
