Keto British “Pigs in Blankets” Christmas Side
Not to be confused with “pigs in a blanket”; in the United Kingdom, "pigs in blankets" refers to small sausages wrapped in bacon. YES bacon! They are a very popular side dish to any roast meat or turkey Christmas dinner.
Depending on the region, this naturally Keto Christmas side dish also goes by the names "wrapped sausages", "pigs in skins" and in Scotland, "kilted sausages".
This Keto Christmas recipe has gone one level further by stuffing manchego between the sausage and bacon, but feel free to leave it out for the classic version.
What can I serve pigs in blankets with?
They are typically served as a side dish to a roast Christmas dinner, but are very popular served as party snacks along with other bite-sized nibbles. Enjoy with mustard, aioli, hot sauce or any dipping sauce of your choice.
What sausages are best to use?
Small cocktail sausages or chipolatas are ideal for this recipe. Source sausages which have a high meat content and always check the label for hidden starches. Pork sausages are traditionally used, but you can substitute with chicken sausages too.
Can I use a different cheese?
You can use any hard cheese of your choice. Cheddar, gouda, gruyere are good alternatives.
