  • Step 1

    Melt the butter in a skillet over low/medium heat. Thinly slice the onion and add to the pan, sweating gently until tender.

    Crush the garlic and dice the bacon. Add to the pan along with the chili flakes and stir well to combine. Cook until the bacon and onions are golden brown.

    Thinly slice the cabbage and add to the pan with the olive oil. Stir well and cook over a medium heat for 4-5 minutes until tender and starting to caramelize.

    Add the stock and simmer for 5-6 minutes until the cabbage is soft and the liquid has evaporated. Serve hot.

    Love smothered cabbage so this was a welcome alternative. However I don't understand the need for butter and olive oil since you have bacon grease but maybe the more fat the merrier! It was delicious and I recommend.

          It needs more cabbage; maybe 3 cups. Very good though.

                          DELISH!! I increased the cabbage by 2 cups. Added a bit of liquid aminos and subbed bacon grease for the butter. This is definitely going into my regular rotation!!
