Keto Flat White
If you’re a coffee snob, then you’ve probably tried every type of coffee on a café menu, including a flat white. This easy Keto coffee recipe is quick to prepare and has only 3g of net carbs per serving.
What’s the difference between a flat white and a latte?
Lattes are made with one or two shots of espresso combined with a few ounces of steamed milk and topped off with a thin layer of foam. A flat white is usually made with 2 shots of ristretto, which is a more concentrated espresso that is strong and sweet. The ratio of milk to coffee in a flat white is usually 2:1, so 4 ounces of steamed milk would be added to 2 shots of ristretto. For a homemade version, you can use espresso if it is more accessible.
Is whole milk Keto?
A 1-cup serving of whole milk contains 12g of net carbs, making it unsuitable for a Keto diet. However, this recipe uses ¼ cup (2 oz.), adding just 3g of net carbs to this Keto flat white. For a lower-carb option, you can use half and half instead.
How to steam milk at home?
An essential step when making a flat white is steaming the milk. We know that a milk steamer is not available in every household; here are a couple of easy methods to steam milk for your Keto coffee without a steamer, but make sure you scoop out the foam before pouring the milk over the coffee.
• The jar method: First, add the milk to a jar and warm it up in the microwave for 30 seconds. Secure the lid, and shake for a minute until it doubles in volume. • Using a French press: Heat the milk in a saucepan or microwave until it is warm but not too hot to touch. Pour it into a French press and pump the plunger handle up and down until the milk is foamy. • **Using a frothing wand:**Just like with any other method, heat the milk in a microwave or on the stove. Pour it into a large glass and use a frothing wand to get the milk foamy.
