Keto Cacao Nibs Hot Chocolate
Enjoy the finer side of chocolate with a more unrefined, raw version! Cacao nibs have very little processing involved, so you can get all the benefits of chocolate without the dairy or sugar. Cacao nibs also contain more of the natural fiber that is in the cacao bean, which also has promising health benefits. Eating dark chocolate can provide you with antioxidants and may also act as an anti-inflammatory. Chocolate may even help regulate some hormones! Drink this Keto hot chocolate once or twice a week to reap the benefits. Just a sprinkle of cacao nibs on top of this hot chocolate made with coconut oil is all you need.
Cacao Vs Cocoa
Both cacao and cocoa are 100% dark chocolate, but they are not the same product. Cacao refers to the rawer form of chocolate, which is less refined and includes more fiber. Cocoa comes in powdered form because it has been ground and refined to remove the extra fiber. Both can be used on the Keto diet. Cacao offers more fiber, but cocoa will have fewer carbs.
Cacao Does Not Melt
Cacao contains more fiber than other forms of processed chocolate and cocoa. Cacao also does not include any dairy products like chocolate does. This means cacao nibs will not melt. Don’t use cacao nibs for making hot drinks or for baking. However, they’re great for adding on top of drinks, smoothie bowls, or Keto desserts.

Step 1
Choose 100% real cacao nibs, which can be found at grocery stores and health food stores, often in the baking aisle. Also, check the health aisles where protein powders and shakes are shelved. Since cacao nibs are considered a healthy source of antioxidants, you’ll be likely to find them amongst other health-related items. Cocoa powder, although 100% chocolate, is not the same and cannot substitute for cacao nibs.Step 2
Make the hot chocolate by heating almond milk and liquid heavy cream in a heat-safe cup. Microwave the cup for 45-60 seconds. Alternatively, you can make the hot chocolate by heating the ingredients in a pot on the stove. Stir cocoa powder and powdered erythritol into the hot chocolate using either a frother or a whisk if you’re using a pot. Use the same process to stir coconut oil into the hot chocolate until it melts.Step 3
Make whipped cream by whipping ¼ cup or more of heavy cream in a stand mixer. Whip the cream until it reaches stiff peaks and holds its shape on a whip. Spoon the amount listed in the ingredients on top of your hot chocolate. Sprinkle the cacao nibs over the whipped cream, adding any more at your discretion. Stir the whipped cream into your hot chocolate to enjoy.
