Keto Italian Beef With Cabbage Noodles

1939 ratings

This meal is a gut-filling crowd pleaser! The thinly sliced cabbage acts like “noodles” in this hearty Italian meat sauce. It requires only a little prep work, and is finished within about 30 minutes so there’s no need to slave over the stove for hours! The recipe yields 8 servings which may sound like a lot, but this dish is great to meal prep to keep in the fridge and freezer for future meals!

Recipe Steps

30 min

  • Step 1

Heat olive oil in a large pan or pot over medium heat. Once hot, add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula or spoon.
    Step 1
  • Step 2

Add the garlic, salt, italian seasoning and basil to the meat. Once it is about halfway to being fully cooked, add in the jar of Rao’s sauce. Bring to a boil and reduce the heat to medium-low.
    Step 2
  • Step 3

Thinly slice the cabbage, add it to the beef, and toss with a pair of tongs. Once the cabbage is somewhat coated in the tomato and beef mixture, reduce the heat to medium-low and mostly cover the pan with a lid, just leaving a small crack for heat to escape and reduce. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 7-10 minutes, or until the cabbage softens.
    Step 3
  • Step 4

Allow the mixture to simmer for about 7-10 minutes, or until the cabbage softens. Remove the lid from the pan and allow to cook for a few more minutes to evaporate any liquid that was released from the cabbage. Top with chopped basil and serve!

After making this many times and loving it, I decided to give it a bit of a twist. I used chili infused olive oil to brown the meat, added tomato paste and cabbage, once cabbage al dente, I added 1 creamcheese, put the mix into the casserole dish and covered with shredded mozzarela. Baked for 10min and 5 min under a grill. It was delishes.

I made this meal for the first time. I exchanged seasoned hamburger for Italian meatballs. I'll make it again for sure.

This recipe relies on Rao’s sauce, which has to be purchased? What if I don’t have access to it? That means I can’t make the recipe at all? No thanks—if a recipe depends on a store-bought product, it’s a dealbreaker for me. How about including a homemade version of the sauce instead?

Very simple to make your own sauce. 2 cans tomato sauce, 1 can tomato paste, seasoning of your choice. I use oregano, garlic, bay leaf and a pinch of basil.

Make your own. Consider the recipe a suggestion. Rao’s has no added sugar. That’s why it’s in the recipe.

You could make your own. There are recipes everywhere for spaghetti sauce. I never buy it. It’s fairly simple. Most people prefer convenience over quality.

I just substitute it with organic tomato sauce and paste…in the quantity you feel is best.

We make this all the time. We’ve even brought it to potlucks and it gets eaten up. We only use Raos pasta sauce, which really makes a big difference. We actually prefer this to regular spaghetti. This recipe has been a game changer. Thank you!

This is a hearty and tasty meal. The cabbage (pasta) was a nice surprise! And I like it that I have 6 extra servings for lunches or quick meals. I’ll make this again, for sure.
