Keto Italian Beef With Cabbage Noodles

1896 ratings

This meal is a gut-filling crowd pleaser! The thinly sliced cabbage acts like “noodles” in this hearty Italian meat sauce. It requires only a little prep work, and is finished within about 30 minutes so there’s no need to slave over the stove for hours! The recipe yields 8 servings which may sound like a lot, but this dish is great to meal prep to keep in the fridge and freezer for future meals!

Recipe Steps

30 min

  • Step 1

Heat olive oil in a large pan or pot over medium heat. Once hot, add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula or spoon.
    Step 1
  • Step 2

Add the garlic, salt, italian seasoning and basil to the meat. Once it is about halfway to being fully cooked, add in the jar of Rao’s sauce. Bring to a boil and reduce the heat to medium-low.
    Step 2
  • Step 3

Thinly slice the cabbage, add it to the beef, and toss with a pair of tongs. Once the cabbage is somewhat coated in the tomato and beef mixture, reduce the heat to medium-low and mostly cover the pan with a lid, just leaving a small crack for heat to escape and reduce. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 7-10 minutes, or until the cabbage softens.
    Step 3
  • Step 4

Allow the mixture to simmer for about 7-10 minutes, or until the cabbage softens. Remove the lid from the pan and allow to cook for a few more minutes to evaporate any liquid that was released from the cabbage. Top with chopped basil and serve!

My new favorite SPAGHETTI replacement!!! I use a jar of Raos from costco, and a bag of tri color coleslaw (shredded cabbage w a little carrots for color). I used onion & garlic powder instead of fresh, and just dried basil & Italian Seasoning. Dinner was ready in less than 10 minutes!! I added sharp cheddar & shredded parmesean cheeses. I dont even miss the pasta!

This is soooo good, we've worked it into our dinner rotation. Everyone loves it! Our homemade Marinara made from garden tomatoes made it very special this summer. The cabbage in this doesn't even taste like cabbage. The strips of cabbage taste like real noodles. Have made it for company who have never eaten a Keto dish! They loved it, too!

This was delicious! I will make this one again for sure! It's only me so I cut the recipe in half. Still plenty for leftovers. And I added mushrooms and a little cayenne. Mmmmmmmm

This dish was really very good. I had my doubts( cabbage) but it turned out very tasty. I'll make it again.I added some cream because I'm not a fan of straight up marinara sauce or anything tomato based. The cream took the sharp tomato taste away.

I really enjoy this recipe, it’s such a healthy option. Second time I’ve made it. Also I make my own keto pasta sauce , you can find the recipe here, and it’s very delicious

Why is the recipe called Keto Italian Beef? Not a huge Italian beef fan almost passed it up. Keto Italian flavored ground beef is less misleading. Also, are the garlic cloves, sliced, diced, minced or whole?

Replaced a little bit of the Rao Tomato sauce with Rotel to add a little spice. Great taste. For a little more carbs, i might add cauliflower rice for a keto version of stuff cabbage (holupki) casserole.

So quick, easy and tasty! Today is my third time preparing this- memorized already. Added oregano, fennel seed chili flakes and heavy cream to the mix. Cream makes it like vodka sauce.chili flakes give us our needed kick. About 5 TBS each of oregano and fennel really makes it taste Italian! We love this stuff! Even as leftovers!

Awesome and quick for everyday. We added lots of oregano and fennel seed instead of Italian seasoning. Used ground turkey with same fat ratio. Added about 2/3 cup of heavy cream to pasta sauce, making it rich and resembling vodka sauce. Cooked longer both with lid and without lid. Cabbage was perfectly tender!

Are the net carbs still correct on this? Rao’s sauce changed their recipe and now has one more net carb per half cup. This was one of our go-to recipes. But it may not be now.

If the additional 1g of net carbs is concerning for you, check out Yo Mama’s brand! Their marinara is 4g net carbs/serving and has 2g sugar (Rao’s has 4g). I find it tastes better than Rao’s (especially since the recipe change).

This is so delicious. I’ve made it a few times and this last time I sautéed the cabbage in 1 TBSP of olive oil & 1 TBSP of butter with salt and pepper and I found it to be a game changer. I start the cabbage first in a different pan while preparing the ground beef. The cabbage was much softer. I didn’t use the 2 TBSP of olive oil in the rest of the recipe since I used the fat in the cabbage. We love this recipe with a side salad. It is full of flavour and something we look forward too 😃
