Keto Sesame Ginger Red Cabbage
This flavorful Keto cabbage makes a delicious savory side served with an Asian inspired meal. Our low carb recipe is prepared with red cabbage, fresh ginger, aromatic garlic, low carb maple-flavored syrup, sesame oil and sesame seeds. This simple side is quick and easy to prepare, perfect for weeknight meals.
What Kind of Cabbage Can I Use?
We have used red cabbage sliced into thin strips for this Keto side dish. You could also use a white/green cabbage if preferred. The recipe will also work with thinly sliced Brussels sprouts if you have these to hand instead of cabbage. Please be sure to adjust your macros and cooking times as needed to account for any different ingredients used.
Do I Have to Use Sweetener?
We have added some low carb maple-flavored syrup to the recipe to complement the flavor of sesame and spicy ginger. If preferred, you can use an alternative low carb sweetener, adjusting the quantities to taste. You can also make the recipe without the addition of any sweetener if desired.

Step 1
Thinly slice the cabbage, crush the garlic and grate the ginger. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over a medium heat. Add the red cabbage to the skillet and pan-fry for 4-5 minutes to soften, stirring often. Then, add the garlic and ginger. Stir well to combine and pan fry for 3 minutes more until tender and fragrant.Step 2
Add the sesame oil and low carb syrup. Sprinkle over the salt and pepper, adding more or less to taste. Stir well to combine and cook for 2 minutes more. If the pan seems a little dry, you can add a touch more oil or a splash of water.Step 3
Scatter over the sesame seeds. Cook through for a minute more to toast the seeds. The cabbage should be tender and starting to caramelize in places. Serve hot with your preferred Keto mains.
