Ultimate Keto Flu Cure
What is the Keto Flu? When the body begins the ketosis process, your body may show some flu-like symptoms in response to the lack of sugar and high fats. Symptoms may include exhaustion, nausea, weakness, and inability to focus. The apple cider vinegar in this drink is believed to help fight sugar cravings, while the lemon juice and salt add electrolytes to recover. Drink this every morning during your Keto flu!
What are the health benefits of this Keto flu cure?
Other than the benefit of relieving Keto flu, this beverage is full of nutrient-rich ingredients that may help improve your overall health. For instance, lemon can potentially boost your immune system and reduce inflammation. ACV may improve digestion and lower blood sugar. Not only is this beverage nutritious, but it is also warming, refreshing, and tasty.
Does it matter what type of salt you use?
It seems like Keto electrolyte drink recipes always call for sea salt. Do you really need to always pull out your flaky sea salt or pink Himalayan salt for these drinks? Nope! You can use regular table salt too. Most would say, however, sea salt tends to have a better taste and retains more nutrients.
What Keto sweeteners can you use?
You can use a variety of Keto-friendly sweeteners to sweeten your electrolyte lemonade. However, remember that even some sweeteners add net carbs to your diet, which can make your Keto flu symptoms feel even worse. Liquid stevia is the best option, but erythritol and monk fruit are known to have less aftertaste.

I mixed this up to help rehydrate after a bout of tummy flu. I used liquid stevia from sprouts.

Do I get the same benifit if i leave out the salt?

Sodium is an important part to "curing" the Keto flu. The symptoms you feel are an effect of losing sodium when you cut out processed foods.

This is an excellent mixture. I’m a bit different then most here. I love ACV just with lemon and water as suggested. No sweetener. Yum all the way. One to two servings a day before food.

Any tips on how to get over the Apple cider vinegar taste? I have tried drinking this before and cannot get passed the vinegar. It makes me puke or gag every time.
RedFergie20 4 years ago
I mix it with sparkling ice.

Can you leave out the vinegar.

Apple cider vinegar is a major component of this drink and has health benefits for 'curing' Keto Flu. Leaving it out essentially leaves you with plain lemon water.

Is it ok to replace the water with some pre-chilled fruit infused tea? Just to get a more fruity “rade” flavour?
recipewriter 5 years ago
Considering the purpose of this recipe, it would be best to use plain water. Water infused with fruit will still have some natural sugar in it, which is exactly what you need to avoid when curing the 'keto flu'.

Make lemon ice cubes, then just add one to your water..... quicker than squeezing everyday

Can you drink this even if you're already past the keto flu stage?
recipewriter 6 years ago
Absolutely! This is a great drink for adding sodium to your diet, since it is very easy to become deficient in sodium on the keto diet.

Is it ok to leave the Stevie out I can't stand recipes with substitute sweeteners.

Hi there, Yes! You can leave the stevia out and it is in fact encouraged. Hope this helps!
