What is cold brewed coffee?

Cold-brew is prepared by steeping coarse ground coffee with room temperature water in the fridge for 6 to 12 hours. The product is smoother, less bitter, and less acidic than coffee prepared with hot water. It is basically the coffee version of a slow-cooked meal; the flavors are more potent, and the drink’s quality is better.

What is the difference between iced coffee and cold-brew coffee?

Iced coffee is created by brewing hot coffee, then cooling it down and pouring it over ice. Cooling hot coffee causes it to oxidize; thus, its flavor flattens and becomes more acidic. Cold-brew is a better option for cold coffee drinks since it brews at a cold temperature, making it retain its flavors.

What type of coconut can you use?

  • Step 1

    Add the coconut to a pan over medium-low heat. Toast for 2-3 minutes, while stirring, until golden. Set aside to cool.

    In a large jar or pitcher, add the coffee, room temperature water, and toasted coconut. Mix everything and cover. Place the jar/pitcher in the fridge for 8 hours.

    Place a piece of filter paper inside a colander, and place it over a glass bottle or empty jar. Gently pour the coffee into the bottle/jar and let it strain. Remove the colander and coffee-filled filter paper, and store the bottle/jar in the fridge for up to 2 days.
