Keto Bunless Pub Cheeseburger

22 ratings

Long-missed are the days of munchable bar food, but sometimes there’s no holding back from a juicy pub burger. This simple lunch combines tender sirloin with thick cheddar cheese and crisp veggies. How can a burger fit into a low carb diet? Removing the bun and wrapping your burger in leafy green romaine lettuce leaves, of course! Satisfy your cravings.

Recipe Steps

steps 4

15 min

  • Step 1

Prepare your burgers by combining the ground sirloin with all the seasonings in a bowl. Use your hands to form two patties, which will be close to an inch thick.
    Step 1
  • Step 2

Melt the butter in a large pan and turn the heat to medium-high. Place the burgers in, and cover the pan with a lid. Let the patties cook for about 4 minutes, then flip them with a spatula. The patties should have a crisp brown to them.
    Step 2
  • Step 3

Slice the cheddar cheese into thin slices, and place them evenly on top of the patties. Cover the pan again with the lid and let the cheese melt, cooking the burger completely through. Let the burgers cook to your preferred doneness, and set them aside to cool slightly on a plate. You may dab some grease away with a paper towel.
    Step 3
  • Step 4

Slice two thick slices of tomato and a couple rings of red onion for each burger. Arrange them on top of the burgers. Rinse the romaine lettuce leaves and remove the thick white bottoms. Wrap the leaves around the burger patties and enjoy!
    Step 4

These were really good and simple. I used Bison instead of ground beef as I don't eat ground beef. This was definitely a meal I looked forward to.

Most of these recipes serve to inspire and nothing more. Look at the ingredient list, look at how they're putting it together, and make your own entries to calculate your macros.

The way the recipes are written is very confusing. If you look at the very top under the title of the recipe it will say how many ounces are a serving (I don’t know if that’s for specific individual or general). For this recipe for me it says 1/4 burger or 2.5 oz. Yes that pound of meat you are using makes 2 burgers which is unrealistic. Rarely does one get to eat an 8 ounce burger. So common sense here. Just divide it into 3 ounce (or 2 or 4 ounce) burgers in the first place. So basically it’s a plain burger with cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion. Onion is not low carb.

If you hit where it says burgers put 1 the red onion 3/8 ounces so there is basically no carbs in it. Right on top of the ingredients

Im so confused!? Is the recipe to make two large burgers from 1lb (16oz) but the nutrient counts are for consuming one 10oz burger?

              ChoosingToLive1 a year ago

I know. That always confuses me too. If you log 1/4 hamburger meat in your tracker the macros are much lower than if you log 4 Oz hamburger. The 4 Oz hamburger meat assumes it’s still 4 Oz after you cook it. which it’s not. The quarter pounder assumes 4 Oz hamburger meat is less than 4 Oz after it’s cooked.

I believe they made 2 burgers totaling 10 oz. So if you just eat 1, then 1/2 the calories & macros to account for.

Where's the "pub sauce"? It ain't a pub burger without a pub sauce or an aioli (easily made keto). This burger is just a cheeseburger.

These are some huge burgers! We made 4 “normal” size burgers instead of 2 huge half pound patties.

Serving size is 1 burger. Not 1/2 a burger.

After looking this over that may have been their intention all along as the serving size is 1/2 a burger

It looks like they made 2 burgers in this recipe totaling 10 oz, so if you just eat 1 (5oz) then you 1/2 the calories & macronutrients listed. However, if you do OMAD, it’s very easy to eat both.

Yes it is because these are massive burgers. And they are intended to be so because you’re not filling up on a bun as with a traditional hamburger. You’re taking a pound of meat and making two burgers from that. The 10 oz serving size is the weight of the burger after it is cooked. But the good thing is with a burger this size you won’t be hungry for a really good while so the calories are not really that much of a big deal. I love to eat a burger like this before an intermittent fast because I won’t be starving and suffering during my fast.

I often make swaps to recipes too, but 3/4 of an ounce of onions isn’t really high carbs. I guess it was the feel of eating g a “Pub Burger”with the most common toppings! I added bacon to mine!😋

You can add an egg to your burger if you wish, but you may want to add another form of fat to your meal. An egg will add mostly more protein.
